The exact type or scale of disruption that will affect an organisation is difficult to predict. What is certain is that there is a considerable range of threats to an organisation’s capability to continue to provide its product or service. The Summer Floods of 2007 and the severe weather events of 2010 are examples of incidents which caused widespread disruption to a large number of diverse organisations. Fire, flooding, IT failure, power outage, pandemic flu and terrorism are other examples of risks that could impact an organisation’s resilience.
The expectations of customers, suppliers, insurers, regulators and auditors dictate that it is essential for an organisation to plan and prepare for the unexpected.
